Navigating fast-moving compliance: Introducing the Aptem Compliance Advisory Board

Aptem Compliance Advisory Board

Introducing the Aptem Compliance Advisory Board

For providers in the further education, skills and employability sector, keeping pace with ever-evolving policy and funding rules is critical. With regular updates to funding rules and regulatory requirements, providers face immense pressure to keep their operations compliant while continuing to deliver quality training.

The essential role of technology in compliance

In this dynamic environment, using technology that stays fully up to date is not just a benefit – it’s a necessity. Providers need platforms that are proactive, responsive and insightful so they can focus on what really matters: supporting their learners and employers to succeed.

Putting expertise at the heart of compliance

That’s why Aptem has launched the Aptem Compliance Advisory Board – an expert panel that sits at the heart of our compliance approach. This board brings together leading external industry specialists and our own internal experts in product, implementation, and communications, creating a unique feedback loop that benefits every Aptem customer.

How the Aptem Compliance Advisory Board operates

The board meets monthly – and more often when regulatory or funding changes demand urgent attention. Its remit is broad: advise on upcoming regulatory changes, clarify new rules and frameworks, assess the impact on providers, and recommend enhancements to Aptem’s platform and support materials. The board also flags up potential interpretation challenges, drawing directly on real-life provider experiences from audits and inspections. Crucially, it acts as a sounding board for new Aptem features and updates, ensuring everything we deliver is grounded in expert compliance guidance.

Meet the Aptem Compliance Advisory Board members

We’re privileged to have two distinguished external board members:

Kerry Boffey, founder and CEO of the Fellowship of Inspection Nominees (FIN), brings deep knowledge of Ofsted inspection, audit, and quality assurance, working daily with hundreds of providers to interpret and implement best practice.

David Lockhart-Hawkins, Managing Director at Lockhart Hawkins Limited, is a nationally recognised compliance consultant, supporting providers in understanding and applying ever-changing DfE rules.

Our internal board members include Georgina Burton (Head of Implementation), Angela Metcalfe (Implementation Consultant), Dan Tiffany (Head of Product), Martyn Wood (Product Owner) and Heidi Marshall (Marketing Director).

Delivering practical, up-to-date solutions – and clear communications

This cross-functional expertise ensures that Aptem remains ahead of the curve, delivering solutions that are both practical to use and aligned with the latest policy thinking. Whether it’s regulatory updates or improvements to the Aptem platform, the board focuses on making sure customers know what’s changing, why it matters, and how the system is evolving to help.

Being proactive: Ready for new funding rules

As regulatory frameworks shift – with funding rules for 2025/26 being the most recent example, and the forthcoming Education Inspection Framework  – the board conducts comprehensive impact assessments so updates are built, tested, and delivered to our customers ahead of time. This guarantees that Aptem users can meet their regulatory and quality obligations seamlessly, minimising disruption and supporting business continuity.
