In this session, Aptem Chief Product Officer James Love works through a practical framework for evaluating, choosing, and deploying AI tools across both sides of your business: learner operations and the business functions that keep everything running.

  • A three-layer model for thinking about AI tooling: embedded AI in products you already use, horizontal tools like Claude and ChatGPT, and bespoke or in-platform builds.
  • Seven questions every AI supplier should be able to answer before you sign anything, grounded in UK GDPR, ICO guidance, the Jisc procurement framework, and DfE safety standards.
  • Three rollout approaches (methodical, devolved, blended) and why devolved within a central frame works best for most providers.
  • A case study from Aptem’s own AI transformation journey, including what went well and what didn’t.
  • The one rule that applies to any automation: never automate what you do not yet understand manually.
